Judy Darling Evans
October 6, 1937 – June 14, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Judy Darling Evans on June 14, 2026, at the age of 88. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Judy was one of Canada's most accomplished amateur golfers. During a remarkable amateur career spanning several decades, her achievements included back-to-back Canadian Women's Amateur Championships (1960-61), the Canadian Junior Girls Championship in 1957, and six Quebec Women's Amateur Championships. In recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the game, she was inducted into the Quebec Golf Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 2017.
Judy proudly represented Quebec on numerous interprovincial teams and represented Canada at the 1959 Commonwealth Tournament at St. Andrews, Scotland and again in 1963 in Australia. Her national recognition included consecutive top three finishes for Canadian Female Athlete of the Year in 1960 and 1961.
Born into a proud golfing family, Judy shared a unique place in Canadian golf history with her mother, Dora Darling. Together, they remain the only mother-daughter duo to have both won the Quebec Ladies Amateur Championship and the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship.
Raised in Montreal, Judy attended The Study school before earning a Bachelor of Science degree from McGill University in 1960. After raising her four daughters, Judy embarked on a second career, serving as a registered nurse throughout Southeast Florida for more than 30 years.
Judy's passion for golf remained a constant throughout her life. In addition to competing successfully in local and regional tournaments throughout Southeast Florida, she shared her love of the game as a golf coach at St. Andrew's School from 1978 to 1982. While she continued to be a fierce competitor, she believed that golf's greatest rewards were the character it built, the sportsmanship it encouraged, and the lifelong friendships it created. Those values remained at the heart of her life.
Judy was predeceased by her parents, A.B. (Bill) and Dora Darling.
She is lovingly survived by her sister, Mary Chalmers (David); her brother, Brian Darling (Judy); her daughters, Katherine Porges (Jamie), Cindy McCoy (Ron), Tracey Salvadore (Michael), and Daphne Evans (Andy Lennox); and her grandchildren, Charles, Bea, and Grace Porges; Owen and Ethan McCoy; and Natalia and Jackie Salvadore.
In accordance with Judy's wishes, there will be no funeral service. True to her spirit, her family gathered privately to celebrate her life with laughter, music, stories, and the love of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Marlene Streit Scholarship supporting the development of young women in golf through the Golf Canada Foundation https://tinyurl.com/9z2njwn7 (Please include Judy Darling Evans in the designation field).
